Hands-On Learning in a Materials Development Partnership
Session 2 on Friday, March 11, from 3:00-3:30PM (PT)
In the fall of 2021, senior TESOL majors at Moody Bible Institute worked with experienced editors through Literacy and Evangelism International to craft English language lessons for the in-process, Bible-inclusive, digital, open-access Light of the World curriculum. The presenters discuss and evaluate what has been learned during this ongoing partnership.
Short Poems as Creative Writing Templates in the TESOL Classroom
Session 6 on Saturday, March 12, from 4:15-4:45PM (PT)
Creative writing provides language learners with an essential outlet for self-expression, creativity, and language play. Turning short poems into poem templates is a highly generative type of activity—as will be seen in examples from Emily Dickinson and Lucille Clifton—and carries a high faith-learning integration potential.
Bradley Baurain is Associate Professor of TESOL at Moody Theological Seminary and Graduate School in Chicago. He has been teaching for more than 30 years in China, Vietnam, Canada, and the United States. Many of his academic publications can be accessed via Academia.edu. He also writes for the Today in the Word devotional guide and recently authored On Waiting Well: Moving from Endurance to Enjoyment When You're Waiting on God (Moody Publishers, 2020).
